WHAT I SAID

This world keeps on pushing and pressing me harder. I’m getting older, getting bitter but smarter. It’s only pushing, pressing coal to diamond. I won’t miss a beat and I will keep my timing.

Here is a mother without her child. There walks a clown without his smile. The baker doesn’t have his bread. I hear the teacher lost her head. Come closer so I can see you. Now, be someone else so that I can be you. That’s what you said to me. You don’t care if it ain’t real. You don’t care if you can’t feel it. That’s WHAT I SAID to you. That’s what I say. Here’s a scale with nothing heavy to weigh. Here’s a voice with nothing left to say. The butcher doesn’t have his meat. There’s a dancer dancing by with two left feet. Come closer so I can see you…Here’s a woman who lost all her love and a little boy who lost his favorite baseball glove. This married man fucked up and lost his ring. They all joined a choir that couldn’t sing. What is a lover without her kiss? What’s a snake without its deadly hiss? What if the magician can’t find his bag of tricks? A million fires are burning without a single candle stick. Come closer so I can see you… (Check this out) a butcher, a baker, a candlestick maker. You used to be a giver now you’re a taker. You used to be real but now you just fake it. I’m caught in the middle, caught in the middle. You keep saying that it’s not your fault so I keep turning around now I’m a pillar of salt. I tried to find you behind those eyes and I found that it wasn’t you but it was you in disguise. You’re a telephone that doesn’t ring. You come to the table with nothing to bring. You’re just a singer with no songs to sing (that’s right). That’s what I said. Please take a good look at my face. (This world keeps on pushing and pressing me harder). Do I seem like someone you should cross? (I’m getting older, getting bitter but smarter) You can try to cheat me to win this bullshit rat race (that’s all it is you know). But don’t be surprised when you’ve still lost. Come closer so I can see you. Be someone else so that I can be you. That’s what you said to me. You don’t care if ain’t real, you don’t care if you can’t feel it. That’s what I said to you, that’s what I say to you, that’s I said to you, that’s what I say.
