Portrait

Isn’t it funny how pieces come together
Just as other pieces start to come unglued
I don’t think we’re ever going to finish this portrait
This funny looking picture of me and you

A tree falls to the ground in the middle of nowhere
A woman’s asked the question and she spares the dime
A father tells his son another bedtime story
All the while the thief is still committing his crime

How many times did I sit in my room and cry?
How many times did my love die for you?
And just how long did I know the whole damn thing was a lie?
Over and over and over again

Taking all my time to consider my choices
Just because it glitters doesn’t mean it’s gold
Tomorrow brings a day of newly bloomed roses
Or maybe just another loving had to hold

Too many times I stood knee deep in my pride
Too many times did my love die for you
And I guess I knew the whole time it was all a lie
And over and over and over again
